We had to turn the lights, the computers and the interactive white boards off because Earth Hour means that we use no energy or power throughout the school on a specific day. Around the world everyone turns off their power to raise awareness about Global Warming. By Danielle and Jacinta (Year 6)

Here are some Energy Saving Tips for your home:

1. Wear the right clothes Dress for the temperature. Layering clothes and wearing wool helps keep you warm in winter, and means you can turn your heater down.

2. Shut doors and close curtains Shut doors to areas you are not using and only heat or cool the rooms you spend the most time in.

3. Set your thermostat In winter heating can account for over 30% of your bill. Set your thermostat between 18 and 20 degrees.

4. Turn heaters and coolers off when you don’t need them Turn off when you leave the room, or go to bed.

5. Wash clothes using cold water You can save around $115 per year by washing clothes in cold water.

6. Run your fridge efficiently Make sure the door seal is tight and free from gaps so cold air can’t escape. An ideal fridge temperature is 4 or 5 degrees and an ideal freezer temperature is minus 15 to minus 18 degrees Celsius.

7. Insulate your roof An insulated ceiling makes a big difference to your power bills.

8. Stop standby power waste Did you know your phone charger is still using energy even when your phone is not attached? Up to 10% of your electricity could be used by gadgets and appliances that are on standby.

9. Save energy in the kitchen If you use the stove, keep lids on your pots to reduce cooking time. Use the economy cycle on your dishwasher and only run it when it’s full.

10. Use energy-efficient light globes Replace old incandescent and halogen light globes with energy-efficient globes.

i learnt that it saving our energy and it’s helping clean the air

1. In winter I also wear warm clothing to save electricity on the heater

10. In my house I have energy efficient lights to save on energy and we only use the lights that we need

We all make an effort to turn off power during earth hour to save energy and raise awareness about global warming

This is a really important post to put up on the blog because it is telling people how important it is to participate in earth hour so we can save our environment and help us to also save global warming too.

2.Shut doors and close curtains Shut doors to areas you are not using and only heat or cool the rooms you spend the most time in.

At home when the fireplace is on we shut all the doors so the room can stay warm!!!

9.Save energy in the kitchen If you use the stove, keep lids on your pots to reduce cooking time. Use the economy cycle on your dishwasher and only run it when it’s full.

When mum or dad is cooking in the kitchen they put the lids on the pots so they can save energy also when we have dirty dishes we pit it in the dishwasher and only put it on when it is full

I THINK THAT WE SHOULD SAVE ENGRY BECAUSE IT IS NOT RIGHT TO ALWAYS USE ENGRY EVERY SINGLE MINUTE.
